Damon Burton: Why Relationships Beat Algorithms

Relationships are the real reason Damon Burton is unbeatable — and if you only know him as the SEO guy, the founder of SEO National, the coach with a huge following, the guy who’s been doing search longer than most people have been on the internet, then you’re only seeing half the story. The part that actually makes him unbeatable isn’t his technical depth. It’s the way he builds relationships that last decades.

I got to see that firsthand about four years ago.

Damon literally flew to Las Vegas just to spend a day with me. He landed in the morning, had a private limo and his longtime driver waiting, and we spent the day hanging out — eating good food, talking shop, doing cocoon oxygen baths, just enjoying the time. Then by mid-afternoon, he hopped back on a flight home. Not for a conference. Not for a meeting. Just to see me.

Who does that? People who value relationships above everything else.

That limo driver? Damon’s used him for years. Same with his car detailing guy — thirty years with the same shop. That’s how he operates. Loyalty is his default setting.

He came again a couple years ago, on December 12, 2023. We ate all-you-can-eat sushi, made videos at the Las Vegas sign, and had another great time. That’s Damon: always showing up, always investing in people, always consistent.

So when he invested in our company, Local Service Spotlight — our main focus — I thought for sure he’d dive into the operating agreement, the SOPs, the systems, all the backend stuff we’d spent months perfecting. Especially because our platform overlaps with SEO, his domain, where he’s arguably one of the deepest experts in the world.

Nope. He wired the money without even reading the docs.

His reason?

“Simple. Because of you.”

That floored me.

This is a guy who could scrutinize every line of code, every tactic, every strategy. He’s one of the rare people who actually understands SEO all the way down to the studs. And yet his deciding factor wasn’t technical. It wasn’t risk analysis. It wasn’t due diligence.

It was trust.

And that’s exactly why Damon stands out in an industry full of people chasing hacks and shortcuts. He understands what actually compounds over time — real relationships. Decades-long loyalty. Showing up when nobody else does. Betting on the person, not the pitch deck.

Anyone can claim to be an SEO expert. Very few people can fly across the country just to spend a day with you — then do it again years later.

That’s what makes Damon different.

And that’s why I’m grateful to call him a friend, a mentor, and an investor who leads with character first.
