The Secret Behind Local SEO | Marketing Mechanic Ep. 2 — the eight minutes that explain everything on this page.
Someone you trust sent you here. They are a client of ours, and they put your name on a short list of businesses they actually refer work to. This page explains what we would like to do for you, why it costs you nothing, and what we are not going to do.
The short version
You got this link from a business owner who works with us. They named you as someone they genuinely refer work to.
We would like to spend fifteen minutes with you, write a real article about your business, publish it, and link to your site.
It is free. There is nothing to buy. There is no second call where we pitch you something.
Here is why we are doing it, in full, because you should not have to guess.
Why you got this link
The business that sent you here is our client. Part of what we do for them is make their real relationships visible — and you are one of those relationships.
Google cannot see a referral. It happens on a phone call. It happens because two people trust each other and have for years. Nothing about it leaves a trace a search engine can read — and now the same is true of the AI assistants your customers are starting to ask instead.
So when a good business tells Google “I am real, I am embedded in this city, I work with real people,” Google has no way to check. Over 80% of the internet is spam. Every site is guilty until proven innocent.
The proof that works is other real businesses. Not directories. Not purchased links. Actual companies that actually work together, documented in public where a machine can read it.
You are one of those businesses. That is the entire reason you are on this page.
What you get
- An article about your business, written from your own words, that you are free to share, print, or post anywhere you like.
- A real link to your site, in context, inside the story — the kind that actually counts.
- A place on the grid, so when we write about businesses in your city or your trade, you are someone we can genuinely mention.
- The recording, if you want it. It is your footage. Use it.
What we need from you
Fifteen to twenty minutes on a call. You talk about what you do, where you do it, and who you serve. We record it.
That is the whole ask. You never touch a keyboard. You see the article before it goes live, and nothing publishes without your yes.
What we are not going to do
- Ask you for money, now or later
- Put you on a mailing list you did not ask for
- Require you to link back to anyone, including the person who sent you here
- Write a word about you that you have not read first
- Book a “quick follow-up” that turns out to be a sales call
If any of that happens, tell the person who sent you here, or email us directly and it stops.
Why we do this for free
Because it is not charity, and you should know the actual reason.
The person who referred you is paying us to make their business easier to find and easier to trust. The single best way to do that is to show the machines that their relationships are real. We cannot show that with an article about them. We can only show it with an article about you — a real business, in their city or their trade, that they actually work with. Doing this for you is how we do our job for them. You get something out of it. So do they. That is the whole trade.
And there is a second reason. A grid only works if it is dense. Every honest business we add makes it stronger for everyone already on it. Your story is the ingredient. We need real ones.
What we will not do is pretend the free version is the full version. It is one interview, one article, one link, and a spot on the grid. It sits in the queue behind clients who pay us. There is no dashboard, no monthly cadence, no reporting, and no promised date. It arrives when it arrives, and it is real work when it does.
Why we publish all of it
Think about a hospital. Every procedure they perform is written down somewhere you could go and read — the technique, the protocol, the checklist, the study it came from. Almost no patient ever looks. But it matters enormously that it exists, and that the person holding the scalpel is certified.
We run the same way. Our article guidelines, our agent training, our link rules, our standard operating procedures — all published, all readable, all free. The 200-page playbook is free. The content architecture is a public map. The method is written out step by step.
You will probably never read any of it. Your marketing person might, and they should. The point is that nothing here depends on you not looking.
We charge for our time. We do not charge for our knowledge.
The rules that keep this clean
People ask whether this is a private blog network or a link scheme. It is not. Here is exactly why, in the order we would want it checked.
- Every article starts from a real conversation. Video or a call, recorded. No AI-generated filler, no spun text, no invented quotes. If the interview does not happen, the article does not happen.
- Links live in context. Inside the story, where a reader would actually want to click. Never in a footer, a sidebar, a directory dump, or a comment.
- No money changes hands for links. We do not buy them, sell them, or accept payment to place one.
- Nobody is obligated to link back. Reciprocal linking for its own sake is a spam signal and we treat it as one. We publish because the story is true.
- Every link is a full endorsement. We do not use
rel="nofollow"as a hedge. If we would not publicly vouch for a business, we do not link to it — and we do not name it either, because a mention without a link is still a citation. - We only link along the grid. Same city, or same industry. A link that would not make sense to a human reader does not make sense to Google either.
- Nothing gets published without the subject seeing it first.
The difference between this and a link farm is not subtle. A link farm manufactures relationships that do not exist. We document relationships that do.
What to do now
Reply to the person who sent you, or email operations@localservicespotlight.com with a couple of times that work. We will send a calendar link and a short list of the questions, so nothing is a surprise.
If you want the long version of the strategy first, it is all on the marketing partnerships page. And if you decide this is not for you, that is completely fine — it changes nothing about your relationship with the person who sent you.
