Marketing Partnerships

The Secret Behind Local SEO | Marketing Mechanic Ep. 2 — the eight minutes that explain everything on this page.

The people you already refer work to are your best marketing. We turn the relationships you have spent years building into something Google and the AI assistants can actually see — real interviews, real articles, real links. For businesses referred in by a client, the lightweight version is free.

The relationships already exist. The machines just cannot see them.

You refer work to people you trust. They refer work back to you. That was true long before anyone said the word “SEO.”

Google cannot see any of it. Neither can ChatGPT, or Gemini, or whatever your customers are asking next year.

A referral happens on the phone. A handshake happens at a conference. A job gets sent across town because you know the person will do right by it. None of that leaves a trace a machine can read.

A marketing partnership turns those relationships into things a machine can read. Nothing is invented. We are not manufacturing relationships. We are documenting the ones you already have.

Why it works: the geo-vertical grid

Every local business sits on one square of a grid.

One axis is your industry. The other is your city — what marketers call a DMA. There are roughly 300 of them in the United States.

A plumber in Chicago. A roofer in Tampa. A workers’ compensation attorney in Atlanta. Everybody lands on exactly one square.

Google is a lie detector test that assumes you are guilty until proven innocent. Over 80% of the internet is spam, so the question it is really asking is simple:

Do you have proof that you do what you say you do, where you say you do it?

The strongest proof is other real businesses vouching for you. And there are exactly two directions that count.

Across your city — the geo axis

The roofer, the chiropractor, the towing company, the attorney down the road. Different trades, same city. A link between you tells Google you are genuinely part of that place.

Across your industry — the vertical axis

The same trade as you, in Dallas, Phoenix, Tampa. Same expertise, different market. A link between you tells Google you are genuinely part of that trade.

That is the cross. You link along your row and along your column. Never diagonally. A link from an unrelated business two thousand miles away means nothing, and a purchased link from a backpack factory overseas means considerably worse than nothing.

The one business you do not do this with is the one sitting on your exact square: same trade, same city. That is your actual competitor.

Everyone else who ranks for what you want to rank for is a potential partner. Most owners never realize this.

A real example: TLS Insulation does attic insulation in Sarasota. Southern Values Cooling and Heating does HVAC down the road in Bradenton. Different services, same market. They recorded content together, linked to each other with real context, and made their service areas explicit. Both moved up in Sarasota. Neither took anything from the other.

How it works

1. One conversation

Fifteen to twenty minutes on a call, or a video from your phone. You talk about what you do, where you do it, and who you serve. That is your entire time commitment. It does not need to be polished — a noisy cell phone video is fine.

2. We turn it into an article

Our agents write it to Google’s E-E-A-T standards — Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trust — and publish it on a real site with real readers. It links to you in context, inside the story. You see it before it goes live.

3. We connect you to your grid neighbors

You get mentioned in their articles. They get mentioned in yours. Not a footer. Not a directory. Not a link exchange — inside real stories, where the mention actually belongs.

4. We show you what to capture next

Most owners are sitting on the ingredients and do not know it. Job site photos, before-and-afters, the five questions customers ask you every single week. We tell you what to point your phone at.

About 90% of the production is handled by AI agents we trained and supervise. That is why we can do this at a price that would not otherwise be possible, and why a lightweight version can be free at all.

The two versions

  Network Partner Ongoing Partner
Price Free $450/month, no contract
Who it is for Businesses referred in by a client or a member of our network Anyone who wants the grid working every month
Articles One, to start Three per month
Links One contextual link to your site Contextual links every month, plus grid cross-links
Grid placement Yes Yes
Mentions in neighbors’ articles When a story naturally calls for it Ongoing, actively built
Turnaround Weeks — queued behind paying clients Monthly cadence
Reporting None Included
Your time About 20 minutes, once About 20 minutes a month

We would rather set the expectation than apologize later, so here is exactly what free means. One interview. One article. One real link. A spot on the grid. No dashboard, no monthly cadence, no reporting, no promised date. It goes in the queue behind the people who pay us. It is real work published to the same standard — there is just less of it, and it arrives when it arrives.

We do it anyway, for a simple reason. Every honest business we add makes the grid denser, and a denser grid makes everyone already on it rank better. Your story is the ingredient. This is not generosity. It is how the thing works.

Where this sits in everything else we do

Free

The Network Partner version above. Plus the Quick Audit, the Knowledge Panel book, and the skill packs. We publish the whole method. Run it yourself if you want to.

$450 a month — Ongoing Partner

Three articles a month with grid links, no contract. This is the lowest paid rung we have, and for most local businesses it is the right first one. For comparison, link building agencies charge $500 to $750 for a single link on a comparable site, and theirs do not start with a real interview.

Real retainers, when you want the system run for you

Spotlight at $99 a month keeps your personal brand site current. The Maps Visibility System is $1,500 per location per month and you do not pay unless you improve. The Conversion Engine Package is $3,500 a month for home service businesses above $2M. Knowledge Panel work, Cloud AI setup, and the AI Builder Program are one-time builds — all of it is on the services page with the price next to it.

Nobody moves up a rung because we pushed them. The partnership work is not bait for a sales call — there is no second conversation where we pitch you. People upgrade because the free version worked and they want more of it.

Why we publish all of it

Think about a hospital. Every procedure they perform is written down somewhere you could go and read — the technique, the protocol, the checklist, the study it came from. Almost no patient ever looks. But it matters enormously that it exists, and that the person holding the scalpel is certified.

We run the same way. Our article guidelines, our agent training, our link rules, our standard operating procedures — all published, all readable, all free. The 200-page playbook is free. The content architecture is a public map. The method is written out step by step.

You will probably never read any of it. Your marketing person might, and they should. The point is that nothing here depends on you not looking.

We charge for our time. We do not charge for our knowledge.

The rules that keep this clean

People ask whether this is a private blog network or a link scheme. It is not. Here is exactly why, in the order we would want it checked.

  1. Every article starts from a real conversation. Video or a call, recorded. No AI-generated filler, no spun text, no invented quotes. If the interview does not happen, the article does not happen.
  2. Links live in context. Inside the story, where a reader would actually want to click. Never in a footer, a sidebar, a directory dump, or a comment.
  3. No money changes hands for links. We do not buy them, sell them, or accept payment to place one.
  4. Nobody is obligated to link back. Reciprocal linking for its own sake is a spam signal and we treat it as one. We publish because the story is true.
  5. Every link is a full endorsement. We do not use rel="nofollow" as a hedge. If we would not publicly vouch for a business, we do not link to it — and we do not name it either, because a mention without a link is still a citation.
  6. We only link along the grid. Same city, or same industry. A link that would not make sense to a human reader does not make sense to Google either.
  7. Nothing gets published without the subject seeing it first.

The difference between this and a link farm is not subtle. A link farm manufactures relationships that do not exist. We document relationships that do.

Who this is for

You are a fit if:

  • You do great work and have the reviews to prove it
  • You already refer business to people you trust, or receive it from them
  • You can spare twenty minutes for a call
  • You are playing a long game — this compounds over months, not days

This is not for you if:

  • You want links without a conversation
  • You want us to write about work you have not actually done
  • You want a rankings guarantee for next month
  • Your reputation problem is a real problem — no amount of this fixes bad reviews, and we will tell you so rather than take your money

How to introduce a partner

If you already work with us and want to bring someone in, do not use the words “link building.” The moment a business owner hears that, they think spam — and they are usually right to.

Say this instead:

“You know I send you work. My marketing team does something for the people I work with — fifteen minutes on a call, they turn it into an article about your business, publish it, and link to your site. Costs you nothing. If you link back to me somewhere it makes sense on your end, great, but that is not a condition. Want an intro?”

Three sentences. Then send them the page we wrote for exactly this moment. It explains the rest so you do not have to, and it does not pitch them anything.

Good to know.

Do I have to be a paying client to be a partner?

No. The Network Partner version is free and always has been. It exists because a denser grid helps everyone on it, including us.

Do I have to link back to the person who referred me?

No. There is no obligation and no quid pro quo. If a link back makes sense on your site, put it somewhere a reader would actually use it. If it does not, do not force it — forced reciprocal links are a spam signal and they hurt both of you.

Could this get my site penalized?

No. Penalties come from manufactured signals: purchased links, spun content, links from sites with no relationship to yours. Every link here comes from a documented conversation between two businesses that genuinely work together, placed in context, along an axis Google already understands. That is the opposite of a penalty risk. It is proof, and proof is not a trick.

How long until I see something?

On the free version, weeks — you are behind paying clients in the queue and we will not pretend otherwise. On the paid version, articles publish monthly. Either way, ranking movement is a matter of months, not days. Anyone who promises you faster is selling something.

Can I keep my current marketing agency?

Yes. We are not here to replace anyone. We work alongside your existing team and we will happily hand your agency everything we produce. See how we work with agencies.

What about AI assistants, not just Google?

Same mechanic, and it matters more every month. When someone asks ChatGPT for a roofer in their city, the model answers from what it has read about real businesses and how they connect. Documented relationships are exactly the kind of thing it can read. Undocumented ones are invisible to it for the same reason they are invisible to Google.

What if my industry is not local?

Then the vertical axis does all the work and the geo axis does none of it, which is fine. The grid still applies — you just build entirely across your industry instead of across your city.
